The rule had been effective Dec. 23, 2024 (see 2403110046), but the new effective date is March 21, 2025, with a compliance date set for March 22, 2027. AMS attributed the delayed implementation to the regulatory freeze as ordered by President Donald Trump on Jan. 20.
USDA says the modifications to the organic regulations sought to clarify standards and addressed topics such as mushroom substrate composition and sourcing of mushroom spawn in organic mushroom production; composting requirements for organic mushroom production; composition and labeling requirements for organic pet food; and the use of certain synthetic substances, including taurine, in organic pet food.
