According a Washington File report, the Secretary of Agriculture has announced that approximately one-third of the U.S. beef export market has reopened. The Secretary explained that countries have been reopening their markets since the start of an expanded Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) surveillance testing program was announced in early 2004. However, the Secretary stated that talks are ongoing with Japan to reopen its market to U.S. beef. 2. State Department Determination Allows Shrimp Imports from Three Australian Fisheries

The State Department has issued a determination that shrimp harvested in Australia's Queensland East Coast Trawl Fishery, the Torres Strait Prawn Fishery, and the Exmouth Gulf Prawn Managed Fishery are harvested in a manner that does not pose a threat of the incidental taking of sea turtles. As a result, shrimp caught with Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) after June 3, 2004 will be allowed to entered the U.S., provided certain documentation requirements are met. 3. State Department Fully Rescinds Debarment Against Armscor and Denel

The State Department has fully rescinded, effective July 14, 2004, the statutory debarment against the Armaments Corporation of South Africa Ltd. (Armscor) and the Denel Group (Pty) Ltd. (Denel) and its divisions, etc. pursuant to the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). 4. CBP Issues Additional Corrections to Notice of Intent to Distribute FY 2004 AD/CV Revenues

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued additional corrections to entries in the table of antidumping (AD) and countervailing (CV) duty orders contained in its June 2, 2004 Federal Register notice of intent to distribute assessed AD or CV duties for fiscal year (FY) 2004 to affected domestic producers for certain qualifying expenditures they incur after the issuance of an AD or CV order.
