2. President Extends National Emergency with Respect to Iran
The State Department's Washington File reports that President Bush has extended the U.S. national emergency with respect to Iran because of that country's continued support for terrorism, its efforts to undermine the Middle East peace process, and its efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction. 3. APHIS Clarification on Imports of Bovine Cheek Meat from Canada
The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has posted a notice to its Web site clarifying that until further notice, cheek meat derived from bovines is not allowed under conditions specified on permits authorizing the importation of boneless beef, boneless bison meat, boneless buffalo meat, and associated meat byproducts. 4. FDA Responds to Questions on Codex Draft Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has posted to its Web site responses to questions about the Codex Draft Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements, which were completed in November 2004 and are scheduled for adoption in July 2005. 5. Correction to BP Summary on USA-ITA Trade Development Memo
BP's March 18, 2005 ITT summary 05031899 5, based on a United States Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) Trade Development Memo (TDM) should be corrected to state that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is asking the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) for a directive in order to make 19 CFR 12.130 apply only to Israel, and to cancel the textile declaration requirement under 19 CFR 12.130.
6. FDA Establishes Uniform Compliance Date for Food Labeling Regulations Issues Between 03/14/05 -12/31/06
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a final rule that establishes a uniform compliance date of January 1, 2008 for food labeling regulations that are issued between March 14, 2005 and December 31, 2006. 7. FSIS to Hold 2 Public Meetings to Prepare for Upcoming Codex Sessions
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued two notices announcing the following upcoming public meetings in Washington, DC in connection with upcoming Codex Commission Sessions:
March 29, 2005 - a public meeting will be held to provide draft U.S. positions and receive public comments on agenda items that will be discussed at the 22nd Session of the Codex Committee on General Principles of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, which will be held in Paris, France April 11-15, 2005.
April 26, 2005 - a public meeting will be held to provide draft U.S. positions and receive public comments on agenda items that will be discussed at the 33rd Session of the Codex Committee on Food Labeling, which will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia May 9 - 13, 2005.
