The Wall Street Journal reports that China is poised to adopt new measures to check surging textile exports. According to the article, Chinese Premier Wen Jianbao stated that China would take further measures to "prevent excessive growth of China's textile and garment exports." The article also indicates that Du Yuzhou, chair of the China National Textile & Apparel Council, stated the new measures, which would curtail certain types of exports, would be implemented in 1-2 months. 3. BIS Announces Civil and Criminal Sentences for BEF Corporation
The Bureaus of Industry and Security (BIS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have announced that BEF Corporation of Allentown, PA was sentenced for illegally exporting miniature photo labs to Iran without proper export licenses and ordered to pay $500,000 in criminal fines and $50,000 in civil fines. The Small Business Administration (SBA) has issued a notice announcing that it is holding 11 public meetings throughout the country in June 2005 on the topic of small business size standards and other issues such as the possible participation of businesses majority-owned by venture capital companies in the Small Business Innovation Research Program. 5. APHIS Seeks Comments on Risk Analysis of Exotic Newcastle Disease in Denmark
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a notice announcing the availability of its risk analysis concerning exotic Newcastle Disease in Denmark and the related disease risks associated with importing poultry carcasses, parts or products of poultry carcasses, and eggs (other than hatching eggs) of poultry, game, or other birds from Denmark. Written comments received on or before July 5, 2005 will be considered.
