CBP Administrative Messages, Web Postings, Etc

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted information on its web site detailing the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS') and State Department's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which will be implemented in stages from December 31, 2005 through December 31, 2007. The initiative will require all travelers from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda to have a passport, or other accepted document that establishes the bearer's identity and nationality to enter or re-enter the U.S. For more information (including FAQs, matrix detailing acceptable forms of documentation, etc.) visit http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/west_hem_init/.

2. Various CBP Web Postings

CBP has posted the following to its Web site:

Reminder on reporting AD/CV Surety Codes on Bonded Cases. CBP has issued an administrative message reminding all ABI filers who report ADD/CVD entries through ABI that if the individual case being reported is bondable, a surety code is required. (BP is researching an issue regarding this administrative message; once the issue is resolved, BP will issue a more in-depth summary of the message. (Adm: 05-0515, dated 05/11/05, available at http://www.brokerpower.com/cgi-bin/adminsearch/admmsg.view.pl?article=2005/2005-0515.ADM )

Radiation portal monitor uncovers attempt to smuggle soil from Mexico. CBP has issued a press release announcing that a recently installed radiation portal monitor at the Santa Teresa, NM port of entry uncovered an attempt to smuggle 49 small bags of soil from Mexico into the U.S. (CBP Press Release, dated 05/06/05, available at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/newsroom/press_releases/05122005.xml)

3. Miscellaneous CBP Messages on AD and CV Duty Actions

CBP has issued messages on a number of antidumping (AD) and countervailing (CV) duty actions, many of which (marked by an * in the action column) were previously published in the Federal Register by the International Trade Administration (ITA) and summarized in International Trade Today.

(The CBP messages marked with an * cover much of the same information as the ITA notices; however, CBP's messages often list the 10-character case number specific to each listed company(s). ITA notices only list the 7-character master case number. In addition, sometimes the master case number for CBP purposes (in parentheses, below, where applicable) differs from the ITA master case number.)
