2. WCO Council Establishes Capacity Building Fund & Directorate
The World Customs Organization (WCO) has issued a press release announcing that at its 105/106th sessions, the WCO Council agreed to the establishment of a dedicated fund that would be used to fund capacity building initiatives directed at Customs administrations including diagnostic studies to determine the abilities and status of WCO members to implement the WCO's Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade. 3. BIS Denies Export Privileges of Mohammed Arastafar for 5 Years
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued an order denying the export privileges of Mohammed Arastafar for five years in connection with charges that he solicited the export of gas processor parts, which are subject to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Iranian Transactions Regulations, to Iran through the Netherlands without the required authorization. 4. APHIS Amends Interim Rule on Certain Avian Flu Import Restrictions
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a technical amendment, effective June 23, 2005, to its May 10, 2004 interim rule which, among other things, prohibits or restricts the importation of birds, poultry and bird/poultry products from regions that have reported the presence of the H5N1 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza (avian flu). APHIS is amending 9 CFR 94.6 to specify that the additional restrictions apply to "unprocessed" carcasses. (See ITT's Online Archives or 05/14/04 news, 04051430, for BP summary of the interim rule.) 6. ITA Announces October 2005 Renewable Energy Trade Mission to Brazil
The International Trade Administration (ITA) has announced that it is organizing a Renewable Energy Trade Mission to Brazil from October 17-19, 2005 to help U.S. firms find business partners and sell renewable energy equipment and services in the hydro, wind, solar, bio-diesel, and biomass sectors.
