The House Ways and Means Committee has issued a press release stating that on Thursday, November 3, 2005, it informally approved draft legislation to implement the U.S.-Bahrain Free Trade Agreement (FTA), in order to provide advice to the Administration on the draft measure, as once it is formally transmitted to Congress, it cannot be amended. 2. CCC Proposes to Ease Transportation Issues Exacerbated by Hurricane Katrina

The Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) has issued a notice regarding additional actions to ease transportation issues exacerbated by Hurricane Katrina. Specifically, the CCC is seeking proposals by November 14, 2005 from interested parties for unloading barges of agricultural commodities located in the New Orleans area to make them available to transport 2005-crop agricultural commodities. 3. Technical Correction to APHIS Proposed Rule on Peppers from Certain Central American Countries

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a notice correcting two technical errors in its proposed rule to allow certain types of peppers from certain Central American countries to be imported without treatment. 4. FTC Final Rule on Disclosing Home Appliances Energy Consumption/Water Use

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued a final rule, effective January 23, 2006, amending its Appliance Labeling Rule by publishing new ranges of comparability for required labels on central air conditioners, heat pumps, and compact dishwashers. The FTC also announces that the current ranges of comparability for standard dishwashers will remain in effect until further notice. 5. FSIS Announces Availability of Information on New Technologies for Production of Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a notice announcing the availability on its Web site of information regarding new technologies for use in the production of meat, poultry, and egg products that it has received and for which it has written a "no objection" letter. The FSIS states that the Web site, http://www.fsis.usda.gov/regulations_&_policies/New_Technologies/index.asp, will include brief descriptions of these new technologies.
