ITC Issues Final Report on Proposed HTS Changes for January 1, 2007 (Part XII - HTS Chapter 44)

This final report, entitled, Proposed Modifications to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S., is part of ITC investigation number 1205-6 which was instituted in September 2004, in conjunction with the third review cycle of the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS).

This is Part XII of a multi-part series of summaries on the ITC's final report. Part XII highlights the proposed changes to HTS Chapter 44 as set forth in Appendix B. See future issues of ITT for additional summaries.

Proposed Changes to HTS Chapter 44

Appendix B of the ITC final report sets forth the following proposed changes for HTS Chapter 44 (see report for complete details):

Chapter 44:Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal

subheading note 1 to chapter 44 would be amended by:

new Additional U.S. Note 4 to chapter 44 would be added

1. 2.00.00 would be superseded by 4402, 4402.10.00 and 4402.90.00
2. 7.24.00 would be superseded by 4407.21.00 and 4407.22.00
3. 7.27.00 and 4407.28.00 would be added
4. 7.29.00 would be renumbered as 4407.29.01
5. 7.93.00, 4407.94.00 and 4407.95.00 would be added
6. 7.99.00 would be renumbered as 4407.99.01

article description of 4408 would be amended by deleting the expression "for other similar laminated wood" and substituting "for similar laminated wood"

1. 9.20 through 4409.20.90 would be superseded by 4409.21, 4409.21.05, 4409.21.90, 4409.29, 4409.29.05, 4409.29.10, 4409.29.25, 4409.29.40, 4409.29.50, 4409.29.60, 4409.29.65, 4409.29.90
