Full enforcement for wood packaging material import regulations to begin July 5, 2006. CBP has issued a news release announcing that CBP in cooperation with USDA's APHIS will begin enforcing the third and final phase of the wood packaging material (WPM) regulation on July 5, 2006. CBP officers discover seven pounds of heroin hidden in baseball bats. CBP has issued a press release stating that seven pounds of heroin concealed in baseball bats was seized by CBP officers at the Memphis International Airport FedEx facility. CBP joins with CPSC to prevent illegal fireworks from entering the U.S. CBP has issued a press release announcing that it will work with the CPSC to prevent hazardous and illegal fireworks from entering U.S. ports and reaching consumers. It is also stated that as part of its fireworks enforcement program, CPSC actively works with ATF to track down and close illegal roadside stands, warehouses and retail stores that sell professional grade explosives to consumers, and homes that serve as havens for the manufacture of dangerous fireworks devices. SENTRI users urged to upgrade to newer technology now. CBP issued a news release stating that it is urging San Diego and Tijuana area Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) participants who have not yet swapped their old fast pass vehicle transponder for the new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) decal to make the conversion immediately or face loss of privileges.
