The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a final rule, effective July 6, 2006, adding Denmark to the list of regions considered free of exotic Newcastle disease. 2. APHIS Proposed Rule Would Allow Import of Shelled Garden Peas from Kenya

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a proposed rule that would amend the fruits and vegetables regulations to allow the importation of shelled garden peas from Kenya into the U.S. under certain conditions. In order to be eligible for importation, the peas would have to be shelled, washed, and inspected and accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service. 3. ITA Announces Meeting of Exporters' Textile Advisory Committee

The International Trade Administration (ITA) has announced that an open meeting of the Exporters' Textile Advisory Committee (ETAC) will be held on August 30, 2006 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ETAC is a national advisory committee that advises Department of Commerce officials on the identification of export barriers and on market expansion activities for textile and apparel. 4. USDA Grants Protection to 21 New Plant Varieties

The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued a press release on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcing the issuance of certificates of protection to developers of 21 new varieties of seed-reproduced and tuber-propagated plants-including bentgrass, corn, lettuce, triticale, and wheat. According to AMS, the owners will have the exclusive right to reproduce, sell, import and export their products in the U.S. for the duration of the protection. 5. APHIS Proposes to Allow Six Fruits from Thailand into the U.S.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a proposed rule that would amend 7 CFR Parts 305 and 319 to allow, under certain conditions, the importation of litchi, longan, mango, mangosteen, pineapple and rambutan from Thailand. Comments on APHIS' proposed rule must be received on or before September 25, 2006.
