According to the statement of a representative of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the U.S. and Malaysia have made significant progress toward conclusion of a U.S.-Malaysia free trade agreement (FTA), but a number of important issues remain outstanding. The Malaysian team will come to the U.S. in mid-April for consultations. The Agricultural Marketing Service has issued a press release announcing that it has partnered with leading industry associations to assist it in generating composite reports for association members and other interested parties, including the California Strawberry Commission, the National Watermelon Board, and the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas. 3. Mexico Reopens its Market to Idaho Potatoes Under Certain Conditions

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has issued a press release announcing that Mexico has reopened its market to Idaho potatoes. After conducting a detailed scientific evaluation, Mexican officials concluded that the isolated detection of potato cyst nematode (PCN), Globodera pallida, presents no risk of introducing PCN in Mexico if the U.S. takes certain actions.
