2. 250% Increase in "Home Textile" Imports Due to "Big Box" Retailer Growth
Shippers' NewsWire reports that U.S. imports of home textiles have increased more than 250% by volume since 2000, according to numbers recently released by the cargo tracking firm, PIERS Global Intelligence Solutions. PIERS credits the large growth in tariff-defined home textile imports (which includes sheets, towels, blankets, apparel, fabrics, rugs and floor coverings) to the growth of "big box" retailers, the largest importers of such textiles. 3. APHIS Proposes Minor Changes to AQI, Veterinary User Fee Regulations
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has issued a proposed rule to amend its Agricultural Quarantine and Inspection Services (AQI) user fee regulations to update an address that appears in several places, as well as to make several nonsubstantive changes to the Veterinary Services user fees regulations to correct errors and to clarify the services covered by certain existing user fees. APHIS will consider comments received on or before September 17, 2007. 4. FMCSA to Hold Open Meeting August 9 on Unified Carrier Registration Plan
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a notice announcing an open telephonic meeting on August 9, 2007 to consider whether the Unified Carrier Registration Plan Board of Directors will continue its work in developing and implementing the Unified Carrier Registration Plan and Agreement.
