3. President's FDA, CPSC Authority Expansion Proposal Lacks Funding
Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce John Dingell has issued a statement in response to the Nov. 6th proposal released by the Bush administration to expand the authority of the Food and Drug Administration and Consumer Product Safety Commission. Dingell states that the critical issue of funding is absent from the proposal, and that Congress is currently considering legislation to provide the necessary authority and funding for these agencies to begin to protect the public safety. 5. DOT's Intelligent Transportation Systems Committee to Hold Meeting
The Department of Transportation has issued a notice announcing a meeting of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Program Advisory Committee (ITSPAC) on November 26-27, 2007 in Washington DC. The ITSPAC was created to advise the Secretary of Transportation on all matters relating to the study, development and implementation of intelligent transportation systems and to make recommendations regarding the ITS program needs, objectives, plans, approaches, contents, and progress. 6. Mexico Opens Border to U.S. Sheep for Slaughter
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has issued a press release announcing that Mexico is once again allowing the importation of U.S. sheep intended for immediate slaughter. Mexico closed its border to U.S. slaughter sheep in July after it was discovered that Mexican importers were using the sheep for breeding instead of slaughter.
