A logistics company reports that it has outfitted ten of its containers with special sensors in addition to RFID (radio frequency identification device) technology that communicate the current GPS coordinates, temperature levels and security parameters (like door activities). The Department of State has issued a notice announcing that its Advisory Committee on Private International Law (ACPIL) will hold a public meeting on November 28, 2007 to discuss the treatment of intellectual property secured financing practices in the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Draft Legislative Guide on Secured Transactions. 4. APHIS Removes Uruguay from List of Areas Free of Foot-and-Mouth, Etc.
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is adopting as a final rule, with one change, its July 2001 interim rule that amended the regulations governing the importation of certain animals, meat, and other animal products by removing Uruguay from the list of areas considered free of rinderpest and foot-and-mouth disease. 5. CBP Extends Comment Period on Private Aircraft Pilots Proposed Rule
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a notice extending for 15 days the comment period on its September 2007 proposed rule to amend CBP regulations pertaining to pilots of any private aircraft arriving in the U.S. from a foreign port or location or departing the U.S. for a foreign port or location. 6. FHA Interim Guidance on Real-Time System Management Information Program
The Federal Highway Administration has issued a notice announcing the availability of an interim guidance on the information sharing specifications and data exchange formats for the real-time system management information program which monitors the traffic and travel conditions of the major highways. (The program was created by Section 1201 of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).) 7. Treasury Dept Adds Synthetic Fatty Alcohols to List of Taxable Substances
The Treasury Department has issued a notice announcing a determination, under Notice 89-61, 1989-1 C.B. 717, that the list of taxable substances in section 4672(a)(3) will be modified to include synthetic linear fatty alcohols and synthetic linear fatty alcohol ethoxylates. This modification is effective as of July 1, 1993, for synthetic linear fatty alcohols and October 1, 1993, for synthetic linear fatty alcohol ethoxylates. 8. FDA Draft Guidance for Industry on Dietary Supplements Recordkeeping
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a notice announcing the availability of a draft guidance for industry entitled, "Questions and Answers Regarding Adverse Event Reporting and Recordkeeping for Dietary Supplements as Required by the Dietary Supplement and Nonprescription Drug Consumer Protection Act."
