State Dept Corrects Passport Fee Schedule of PASS Card Final Rule

The State Department has issued a notice correcting the passport fee schedule published in its December 2007 final rule providing for a passport card (also called a PASS Card) for land and sea travel between the U.S. and Canada and Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. The corrections, as well as the December 2007 final rule, are effective February 1, 2008.

(The PASS card is a low cost alternative to the traditional book format passport, and its primary purpose will be to facilitate the travel of U.S. citizens living in border regions as part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI).)

Correction Removes Certain References to First Time Applicants, Renewals

The correction notice removes the reference to "first time applicant only" that appeared beside the fee entitled, "execution fee" and removes the reference to "including renewals" that appeared beside the fee entitled "application fee for applicants age 16 or older" in the final rule's amendments to 22 CFR 22.1.

The correction notice also makes similar, corresponding changes to a table in the preamble.

The correct schedule of fees for PASS cards, with removed references to renewals and first-time applicants should read as follows:

Passport and Citizen ServicesFee
application fee for applicants age 16 or older [Adult Passport Card]$20
application fee for applicants under age 16 [Minor Passport Card]$10
execution fee [Passport Card Execution]$25
