The World Trade Organization Secretariat reports that during the period January 1 - June 30, 2008, the number of initiations of new AD investigations showed a 39% increase compared with the corresponding period of 2007. The number of new measures applied also increased, although to a lesser extent, between these periods. 2. LA/LB Provide Financial Assistance to Replace Old, Polluting Trucks

The Port of Long Beach has announced that it, along with the Port of Los Angeles and the State of California, is providing financial assistance to help truckers replace their old, polluting trucks with clean trucks. 4. DOT Announces Designated Projects under Border Congestion Relief Program

The Department of Transportation has issued a notice announcing the selection of the Transportation Border Congestion Relief (TBCR) Program applications to be designated as the TBCR Projects. The DOT has identified three surface transportation projects - two on the U.S./Mexico border and one on the U.S./Canada border - which can help improve border travel times. 5. Certain Crme-Filled Cookies Recalled Due to Possible Melamine Contamination

6. APHIS: First Shipments of Vietnam Dragon Fruits Arriving in U.S.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has announced that the first shipments of irradiated dragon fruit from Vietnam arrived in Long Beach, CA on October 18, 2008. APHIS approved the importation of pre-cleared, commercial shipments of fresh Vietnam dragon fruit, provided certain conditions are met. 7. AES Compliance Seminar to be Held in Las Vegas on November 5th

Census has issued an AES broadcast announcing an AES Compliance Seminar in Las Vegas on November 5, 2008 on the filing requirements, data elements, parties, and responsibilities and new deadlines by mode of transportation to avoid penalties and seizure of shipments. 8. FSIS Updates Export Requirements, Eligible Foreign Establishments

The Food Safety and Inspection Service has posted updated export requirements for the following countries: Mexico (fresh/frozen meat and meat products, etc.) and Chile (poultry products, red meats, etc.). In addition, FSIS updated its list of eligible foreign establishments in Canada (meat and poultry), Spain (meat), Russia (poultry), and Russia(pork). (Documents hyperlinked)

11. Canada Issues Notice on Imported Egg and Egg Products TRQ

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a notice to inform importers of the Minister's policies and practices respecting the administration of the eggs and egg products tariff rate quota (TRQ) and to invite applications for quota shares of the eggs and egg products TRQ available for allocation for the period January 1 to December 31, 2009.
