2. Transportation Subcommittees Hearing on Southern CA Freight Challenges

On February 20, 2009, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials and Highways and Transit Subcommittees held a joint hearing on "Confronting Freight Challenges in Southern California." 3. Obama Administration is Reviewing its Policy on Burma

During a Town Hall meeting at the University of Tokyo, Secretary of State Clinton stated that the Obama Administration is conducting a review of its Burma policy. She also stated that the Administration is looking at steps that the U.S. could take that might influence the current Burmese government, and ways that the U.S. could more effectively help the Burmese people. 4. CPSC Draft Guidance on Phthalates Published in Federal Register

The Consumer Product Safety Commission's draft notice seeking comment on its approach for determining which children's products are subject to the phthalate bans of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 has been published in the Federal Register. 5. Canada's Trade Agency Posts Export Controls Handbook

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) has posted an export controls handbook to its Web site. The handbook is designed to be a reference tool to assist exporters with questions about the administration of Canada's export controls, which are administered pursuant to the Export Control List, the Area Control List and the Automatic Firearms Country Control List under the authority of the Export and Import Permits Act. Information contained in this handbook includes: how to obtain the necessary permits for the export or transfer of controlled items and how to comply with the requirements of the Export and Import Permits Act and its related regulations.
