DHS' Stimulus Funding to be Used for Land Port of Entry Construction, Etc.
The Department of Homeland Security has issued a press release announcing some details of the projects being funded by the $3.5 billion in funding that DHS will receive from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (i.e., the economic stimulus bill), which was enacted on February 17, 2009 (Public Law 111-005).

List of DHS Projects Supported by Stimulus Funding
The following have been identified in the press release as DHS projects that are supported by the economic stimulus bill funding:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection
$720 million for construction at land ports of entry
$100 million for Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) technology
$100 million for border technology on the southwest border
$60 million for tactical communications equipment and radios
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
$20 million for ICE automation modernization and tactical communications
Transportation Security Administration
$1 billion for explosives detection systems and checkpoint screening equipment
(DHS' plan is to use the $1 billion to accelerate the implementation of optimal checked baggage solutions and the enhanced detection of liquid threats in carry-on baggage. DHS proposes to allocate $700 million to checked baggage explosive detection systems and $300 million to checkpoint explosive detection technology.)

$5 million to conduct related oversight and audits
New DHS Web Site Will Track DHS' Stimulus Receipts and Expenditures
DHS has launched a Web site that will track and monitor the stimulus money coming into DHS and going out to DHS-related projects. This new web site is www.dhs.gov/recovery.
