5. USDA Reallocates Surplus FY 2009 Beet and Sugar Cane Marketing Allotments

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) has announced the reassignment of projected surplus beet and cane sugar marketing allotments and allocations under the fiscal year (FY) 2009 Sugar Marketing Allotment program. Among other things, the FY 2009 beet and cane sector allotments are larger than can be fulfilled by domestically-produced beet and cane sugar, so the remaining sector surpluses were reassigned to raw sugar imports as required by law. 6. APHIS Final Rule on Fresh Longan from Taiwan

The Animal and Plant Inspection Service has issued a final rule, effective June 19, 2009, to allow the importation of commercial shipments of fresh longan with stems from Taiwan into the U.S., as long as certain treatment, inspection, certification, and packaging requirements are met. 7. USDA Reestablishes Fruit & Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has reestablished the Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee. In March 2009, Agriculture Secretary Vilsack signed authorization to re-charter the committee for two more years. The purpose of the advisory committee is to examine the full spectrum of issues faced by the fruit and vegetable industry and offer the Secretary of Agriculture advice on how USDA can tailor its programs to better meet the fruit and vegetable industry's needs. 9. Revised Directive on Meat, Poultry, Egg Products Refused Entry

10. Company President Sentenced to 5 Years Prison for Falsely Labeling Seafood Imports

The Justice Department reports that Peter Xuong Lam of Fairfax, Va., who was the president of Virginia Star Seafood Corp., has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for participating in a conspiracy that led to more than 10 million pounds of frozen catfish being imported from Vietnam, but fraudulently labeled and sold in the U.S. as sole, grouper and other species. This sentence is one of the longest imposed by a federal judge for falsely labeling seafood. Lam was convicted last October of conspiring to import mislabeled fish in order to avoid federal import tariffs and three counts of dealing in fish that he knew had been imported contrary to law. 12. TTB to Hold Industry Expo June 24-26, 2009

On June 24 - 26, 2009, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), will hold its second alcohol, tobacco, firearms and ammunition industry conference and expo at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky. The Expo is targeted at industry members, relevant trade associations, consultants, and state government officials. 13. U.S. & Angola Sign TIFA

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has issued a press release announcing that the U.S. and Angola have signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) that will provide a forum to address trade issues and help enhance trade and investment relations between the U.S. and Angola. 14. 820 Developing Country Officials Participating in WTO Course

The Food Safety and Inspection Service has posted updated export requirements for the certain countries.

Japan (egg products)- The export requirements for Japan (egg products) were revised to include additional information on alternate certification.

Mexico - The export requirements for Mexico were updated to include additional information about ineligible poultry and poultry meat products.

China - The export requirements for China were update to include additional information on restrictions for imported U.S. pork/pork products.
