2. BIS Posts Details on its Update 2009 Annual Conference

The Bureau of Industry and Security has posted program and registrant information for its Sept 30-October 2, 2009 Update 2009 Conference on Export Controls and Policy to be held in Washington, D.C. 3. WTO Talks on IPR Issues Divided Over Geographical Indications, Etc.

The World Trade Organization reports that talks on two intellectual property issues, geographical indications and proposals related to biodiversity, are dividing members. The two issues are whether to: (i) extend the higher level of protection for geographical indications currently only required for wines and spirits; and (ii) amend the WTO intellectual property agreement (TRIPS) so that patent applicants have to disclose the origin of genetic material and traditional knowledge (TK) used in the invention, to show that they have received permission to use the materials and knowledge, etc. (Notice, dated 07/27/09, available at http://www.wto.org/english/news_e/news09_e/trip_27jul09_e.htm)

4. Dorel Recalls 28,350 Maxi-Cosi Mico Infant Seats

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is announcing a recall involving certain Dorel Juvenile Group's Maxi-Cosi Mico infant child restraints. The affected models include the Maxi-Cosi Mico infant child restraint systems, models 22-371 and 22-372, and Maxi-Cosi Mico infant child restraint system - base only, model 22-515, produced from July 2007 through February 17, 2008. 5. APHIS Canadian Border Agricultural Clearance PPQ Manual Updated

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has posted a July 22, 2009 version of its Canadian Border Agricultural Clearance PPQ Manual, which serves as a guide for authorized Federal officers at ports of entry along the Canadian Border. 6. APHIS Export Program PPQ Manual Updated

APHIS has issued a July 21, 2009 version of the PPQ Export Program Manual. This operational manual enables Authorized Certification Officials to inspect and issue Federal Export Certificates for plants and plant products. It also provides information that helps exporters meet the plant quarantine import requirements of foreign countries. 7. APHIS Fruits and Vegetable Import PPQ Manual Updated

APHIS has issued a July 22, 2009 version of its Fresh Fruits and Vegetables PPQ Import manual. This manual lists by country the fruits and vegetables that are admissible into the U.S. It includes a description of methods for sampling and inspecting selected fruits and vegetables, pictorial identification guides, and a glossary for common and scientific names of fruits and vegetables. 8. APHIS Miscellaneous and Processed Products PPQ Manual Updated

APHIS has issued a July 21, 2009 version of its Miscellaneous and Processed Products PPQ manual, used for regulating imported items that are processed and are not intended for propagation. 9. CBSA Initiates Re-Investigation of EU Subsidies of Refined Sugar

Canada Border Services Agency has initiated a re-investigation of subsidies of refined sugar, from sugar cane or sugar beets, in granulated, liquid and powdered form, originating in or exported from the European Union. The re-investigation is part of the CBSA enforcement of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal's finding issued on November 6, 1995 and continued in 2000 and 2005. 10. CBSA Preliminary Affirmative AD Finding for Mattress Innerspring Units from China

The Canada Border Services Agency has made a preliminary affirmative determination of dumping regarding mattress innerspring units with or without edge guards, used in the manufacture of innerspring mattresses originating in or exported from China.
