CPSC Chairman Explains & Defends CPSIA Before European Parliament
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has posted the comments of Chairman Tenenbaum before the European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Affairs Committee on June 10, 2010.

CPSC Has Issued Many Rules to Implement CPSIA, Is Creating Outreach Office
Chairman Tenenbaum stated that CPSC has issued more than 50 rules, public notices, and guidance documents in its implementation of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 and briefly described the agency’s proposed rules on the definition of a children’s product; on phthalates in children’s toys and child care products, on testing and labeling of children’s products for CPSIA certification purposes, etc.
She added that CPSC is also creating an office of Education and Outreach to better inform foreign governments and international partners of CPSC rules and regulations.
Despite Controversy, CPSIA Codifies Fundamental Product Safety Controls
Chairman Tenenbaum also noted that despite debate in the U.S. about the CPSIA, it really does codify some of the simple fundamentals of product safety that are now the baseline requirements for companies trying to meet the standard of due care.
For example, companies must know and comply with U.S. and voluntary standards. They must have control over their supply chains and have their products tested. They must also report non-conforming products to the CPSC.
