FTZ Association Announces Availability of New Zone Specialist Certification

The National Association of Foreign-Trade Zones (NAFTZ) announces that the Accredited Zones Specialist (AZS) Certification Program has recently been launched for professionals in the FTZ field.

NAFTZ states that the AZS designation will demonstrate knowledge to employers, potential zone users, and others for FTZ professionals.

Minimum Employment, Seminar/Conference Experience, Etc. Requirements

In order to qualify as an AZS, an application must be submitted to the NAFTZ Certification Committee, along with a nonrefundable registration fee ($300 for NAFTZ members, $600 for nonmembers), and supporting documentation as proof of the following:

  1. Employment for five or more years in the FTZ field.
  2. Attendance at a minimum of five NAFTZ seminars, conferences, or webinars in the past five years.
  3. One of the following:
  • Speaking/moderating a minimum of five times at an NAFTZ educational conference or seminar;
  • Active involvement in the Operator/User, Grantee, or Petroleum NAFTZ committee during the past two years; or
  • Publication of at least three articles concerning FTZ operations within the past five years in a regional or national trade publication.

Recertification Required Every 3 Years

In order to qualify for AZS recertification, every three years, an AZS specialist must (1) pay a nonrefundable recertification fee ($150 for members, $300 for nonmembers), and (2) must have attended at least three NAFTZ meetings/events every three years.
