The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has announced its intention to request a three-year extension of approval of the information collection required by the Lacey Act for the importation of certain plants and plant products.

The Lacey Act makes it unlawful to import certain plants and plant products without an import declaration. (The Lacey Act Declaration can be submitted electronically via the Automated Broker Interface or via paper (Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) Form 505.)
Comments on the request are due by November 29, 2010.
APHIS Estimates Reporting Burden as 8 Hours for Each Declaration
According to APHIS, the public reporting burden for the Lacey Act Declaration is estimated to average 8 hours per response. APHIS estimates the annual number of responses to be 1,638,560 and the estimated total reporting burden on respondents to be 13,108,480 hours.
