  • EU-Canada trade negotiations. EU Commissioner for Trade De Gucht announced he will go to Canada next week to take stock of the negotiations for a comprehensive economic and trade agreement between the EU and Canada, which are entering their final stages. The countries will discuss the traditional goods sector, service sectors, regulatory barriers, intellectual property rights, and procurement. It would be the first free trade negotiation that the EU has engaged in with a fully developed industrialized country.
  • GMO research. On December 9, 2010, the EU is publishing a compendium entitled, “A decade of EU-funded GMO research” to help inform the debate on genetically modified organisms.
  • Chemical C&L webinar. The European Chemicals Agency will host a December 14, 2010 webinar on chemical substance notifications under the EU's classification and labeling regulations, focusing on the main steps necessary to submit successful C&L notifications, which are due January 3, 2011.
