  • EU-India trade agreement. Following the EU-India Summit on December 10, 2010, European Commission President Barroso stated that the basic contours of the Trade and Investment Agreement with India were agreed upon. The EU aims to conclude negotiations as early as possible in 2011.
  • Agricultural product certification, etc. The EC adopted a “Quality Package,” a proposal which sets up a comprehensive policy on certification schemes, value-adding terms for agricultural product qualities, and product standards. Further information on the "Quality Package" available here.
  • Future of the EU Common Agriculture Policy. The future of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) was discussed at the European Economic and Social Committee’s plenary session on December 9, 2010. EESC members argued for a new CAP, decisively breaking with the past, insisting that it needs to move from the logic of aid to farmers to be more market-oriented and transparent. The final opinion will be issued in March 2011.
  • L'Oreal, eBay trade mark case. The EU posted EU Advocate General Jääskinen's opinion in the eBay-L'Oreal trade mark case.
  • REACH-IT hours extended. The European Chemicals Agency has announced that it will keep the REACH-IT system for chemical substances and its Helpdesk open from December 27 until December 30, 2010 to help the chemical industry submit their CLP Notifications in time.
