The European Union issued the following trade-related releases on December 13, 2010:

  • New customs security rules. After January 1, 2011, all traders involved in customs transactions and international logistics will have to provide EU Customs with security data through electronic declarations before goods are brought into, or out of, the EU. In addition, a uniform set of EU risk-criteria will be applied by Member States when carrying out Customs controls on goods entering or leaving the EU.   • Harmonized chemical classification. The Committee for Risk Assessment of the European Chemicals Agency has adopted opinions on two proposals for harmonized classification and labeling across Europe. RAC agreed to classify HBCDD for reproductive toxicity, the main downstream uses of which are in the polymer and textile industries. RAC also agreed to classify leucomalachite green as a carcinogen and mutagen.
