The European Union issued the following trade-related releases on December 14, 2010:

  • U.S. & Canada trade discussions. EU Trade Commissioner De Gucht will travel to the U.S. on December 17, 2010 to discuss EU-U.S. economic and regulatory cooperation and progress in international trade talks regarding the Doha Development Agenda. He is also scheduled to be in Canada on December 14, 2010 to discuss progress on the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
  • Updated customs tariff database. A new version of the TARIC online customs tariff database is now available which integrates all measures relating to tariff, commercial and agricultural legislation. The TARIC gives all economic operators a clear view of all measures to be undertaken when importing or exporting goods.
  • Tougher rules for human trafficking. The European Parliament approved new rules to combat human trafficking and exploitation. The new directive sets ten years' imprisonment penalties for cases where children are exploited, criminal organizations are involved, etc. and will also make instigating, aiding, abetting, or attempting to commit such an offense punishable.
