The Government of Canada issued the following notices on December 16, 2010:

  • Customs self assessment program for carriers. CBSA has revised its memorandum on the Self Assessment Program for Carriers to include information on (1) goods traveling on an air transport document and traveling to Canada by truck (“Flying Trucks”); (2) the CBSA System Outage Contingency Plan; and (3) regarding the transportation of goods -- stating that “The consignee is required to provide Proof of Delivery to the carrier.” Contact information and other miscellany have also been revised.
  • Canada and EU FTA talks. EUBusiness.com reported that Canada and the European Union are on track toward signing a free trade agreement by the end of 2011, according to Canadian Trade Minister Peter Van Loan and EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht. Official talks were launched in June 2009. A sixth round of negotiations is scheduled to start next month in Brussels.
