The European Union issued the following trade-related releases on January 12, 2011:

  • Hazardous substances labeling. Under new rules endorsed by the Internal Market Committee, construction products containing hazardous substances will have to be clearly labeled to include information on hazardous substances as required by the REACH Regulation. The plenary vote is scheduled for January 18, 2011.
  • 2011 tax, customs, anti-fraud agenda. The EU Commissioner for Taxation, Customs, Anti-fraud and Audit will visit Romania and Bulgaria on January 13-14, 2011 where he will outline his agenda for taxation, customs and anti-fraud in the year ahead.
  • Acquisitions in non-EU countries.The European Commission has required Spain to abolish a tax scheme favouring acquisitions in non EU countries.
