Canadian Government Notices for Jan 14 -17

The Government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices on January 13 - 17, 2011:

  • Softwood lumber exports to U.S. Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada issued a notice, effective January 1, 2011, providing a listing of all companies that have been granted export allocations for 2011 the Canada-United States Softwood Lumber Agreement (SLA).
  • Canada-European Union Trade Negotiations. Canada's Minister of International Trade announced the launch of the sixth round of negotiations toward a comprehensive economic and trade agreement between Canada and the European Union. This round of talks is scheduled to continue until January 21, 2011.
  • Interim order on mail and cargo. In the January 15, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, Canada’s Department of Transportation issued Interim Order No. 6 respecting Mail, Cargo and Baggage which, among other things, states that an air carrier must not transport on a flight to Canada mail or cargo that originates or has transited through Yemen or Somalia.
  • Neocate infant and junior formulas. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal will hold a public hearing to consider whether Neocate infant and junior formulas are properly classified under tariff item No. 2106.90.99 as other food preparations or under tariff item No. 3004.50.00 as other medicaments containing vitamins, entitled to the benefits of tariff item No. 9979.00.00 as goods specifically designed to assist persons with disabilities in alleviating the effects of those disabilities.
  • Nickel, bis[2,3-bis(hydroxyimino)-N-(2-methoxyphenyl)butanamidato). In the January 15, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, Canada’s Ministers of Environment and Health Notice proposed amending the Domestic Substances List under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 to indicate that subsection 81(3) of that Act applies to Nickel, bis[2,3-bis(hydroxyimino)-N-(2-methoxyphenyl)butanamidato]-
  • Cyclotetrasiloxane, octamethyl-(siloxane D4). In the January 15, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, Canada’s Minister of Environment published a proposed notice requiring the preparation and implementation of pollution prevention plans in respect of Cyclotetrasiloxane, octamethyl- (siloxane D4) in industrial effluents.
  • Domestic Substances List. In the January 15, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, Canada’s Ministers of Environment and Health published the final decision after screening and assessment of various substances for possible inclusion in the Domestic Substances List.
  • Recalls. Durabrand Sandwich Maker and Durabrand Panini Maker sold by Wal-Mart Canada Corp. (01/14/11). AirZone and Variflex Trampolines (01/17/11). Toxic Waste® brand Nuclear Sludge® Chew Bars imported from Pakistan. (01/13/11)
