  • Consumer disputes with traders. The EU has launched an 8-week online consultation to lead an initiative on Alternative Dispute Resolution schemes to ensure that EU consumers can simply, quickly, and inexpensively resolve their disputes with traders without going to court. A legislative proposal is scheduled for November 2011.
  • Waste management. The European Commissioner for Environment gave a speech on resource use and waste management. He discussed reducing EU dependency on imported raw materials, the implementation of existing waste legislation, and further reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, among other things.
