The Government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices on January 20-23, 2011:

  • Canada-U.S. trade partnership. On January 21, 2011, Canada’s Minister of International Trade concluded a two-day visit to Washington, D.C. where talks focused on broadening the Canada-U.S. trade partnership to drive economic recovery and create jobs on both sides of the border.
  • Softwood lumber ruling. On January 21, 2011, Canada’s Minister of International Trade issued a statement on the softwood lumber ruling by the London Court of International Arbitration concerning its decision on a U.S. challenge against forestry programs run by the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
  • Toffee fudge hot chocolate. On January 21, 2011, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Mountainview Marketing warned people with allergies to almonds not to consume the Pelican Bay Ltd. Toffee Fudge Hot Chocolate, a product of Pelican Bay Ltd., U.S.
  • Biosecurity for dairy sector. On January 21, 2011, the CFIA (in collaboration with the Dairy Farmers of Canada announced it would be developing a voluntary national farm-level biosecurity standard for the dairy sector.
  • BEKA Capillary Tube Mats. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal will hold public hearings to consider whether BEKA Capillary Tube Mats are properly classified under tariff item No. 3926.90.90 as other articles of plastics and articles of other materials of heading Nos. 39.01 to 39.14, or under tariff item No. 8419.50.00 as heat exchange units.
  • Flange bolts and screws. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal will hold public hearings to consider whether flange bolts and screws are the same as the goods in the Tribunal’s findings in Inquiry No. NQ-2004-005 (Certain Fasteners), and therefore subject to anti-dumping and countervailing duties.
  • Knitted or woven nitrile-coated gloves. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal will hold public hearings to consider whether knitted or woven nitrile-coated gloves are properly classified under tariff item No. 6116.10.00 as knitted gloves coated or covered with rubber, or under tariff item No. 6216.00.00 as woven gloves, or should be classified under tariff item No. 4015.19.90 as other gloves for all purposes of vulcanized rubber other than hard rubber.
  • Domestic Substances List. In the Canada Gazette on January 22, 2011, the Ministers of the Environment and Health issued a notice of Intent to amend the Domestic Substances List to apply the significant new activity provisions of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 to Five Batch 2 substances.
