  • Cross-border crimes. The EU and U.S. will co-host an international symposium on dismantling transnational illicit networks on May 17-19, 2011. The focus will be on cross-border crimes and illicit routes, including drugs, arms, human smuggling/trafficking, maritime crimes, etc.
  • Single EU patent system. The Legal Affairs Committee has approved the use of the enhanced cooperation procedure to create a unitary patent system in the EU, that makes it easier to seek EU-wide patent protection, tackle infringements, etc. Parliament will vote on the proposal in February.
