  • U.S.-Canada Perimeter Agreement. On February 4, 2011, Canada’s Prime Minister Harper and U.S. President Obama issued a Declaration on a Shared Vision for Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness. (See ITT's Online Archives or 02/07/11 news, 11020729, for BP summary.) (here)
  • Authorization to Export Energy to the U.S. In the February 5, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, the Canadian National Energy Board (the Board) announced that Shell Energy North America (US), L.P. had applied to the Board for authorization to export up to 5,000,000 MWh of combined firm and interruptible energy annually for a period of 10 years.   • Most-Favored-Nation Tariff Elimination. In the February 5, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, the Canadian Department of Finance announced that the Government of Canada will be seeking the views of interested parties on the proposed elimination of Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) tariff rates on certain goods used by Canadian manufacturers. The tariff items and goods being considered for elimination of the rate of customs duty are listed in Tables 1 and 2. (here)
  • X Rocker II Gaming Chair. In the February 5, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the Tribunal) announced that it will hold public hearings to consider whether the X Rocker II gaming chair is properly classified under tariff item No. 9401.61.10 as other upholstered seats, with wooden frames, or under tariff item No. 9504.10.00 as video games of a kind used with a television receiver.   • Databank Watches. In the February 5, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, the Tribunal announced that it will hold public hearings to consider whether certain databank watches are properly classified under tariff item No. 9102.12.00 as wrist-watches, electrically operated, whether or not incorporating a stop-watch facility, with opto-electronic display only, or under tariff item No. 8470.10.00 as electronic calculators capable of operation without an external source of electric power and pocket-size data recording, reproducing and displaying machines with calculating functions.   • Winch Straps. In the February 5, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, the Tribunal announced that it will hold public hearings to consider whether winch straps are properly classified under tariff item No. 6307.90.99 as other made up articles, including dress patterns, of other textile materials, or under tariff item No. 8431.10.00 as parts suitable for use solely or principally with the machinery of heading No. 84.25.   • Fresh Cilantro. - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the Nature's Reward brand fresh cilantro because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. (here)
  • Interim Order on Mail and Cargo. In the February 5, 2011 issue of the Canada Gazette, Canada’s Department of Transportation issued Interim Order No. 7 respecting Mail, Cargo and Baggage which, among other things, states that an air carrier must not transport on a flight to Canada mail or cargo that originates or has transited through Yemen or Somalia. The Interim Order No. 6 respecting Mail, Cargo and Baggage is repealed. (here)
  • Certain Steel Structural Tubing. On February 04, 2011, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the revised schedule concerning its re-investigation, of (Dumping file #: 4258-122-Dumping case #: AD/1303), with respect to certain steel structural tubing originating in or exported from the Republic of Korea, South Africa and Turkey.
