President Tells Congress of Plans for High Performance Computer Exports, Albania and Croatia

On February 7, 2011, the President sent a letter to the Chairmen of several congressional committees1 informing them that in accordance with the provisions of section 1211(d) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1998 (Public Law 105-85), he has decided to establish a new level for the notification procedure for digital computers set forth in section 1211(a) of Public Law 105-85. The new level will be 1.5 Weighted TeraFLOPS.

In accordance with the provisions of section 1211(e), he also notified the committees of this decision to remove Albania and Croatia from the list of countries covered under section 1211(b). According to the President, these changes were made based on the recommendation of the Departments of State, Defense, Commerce, and Energy.
