The European Union issued the following trade-related releases on February 9, 2011:

  • GHG emissions. The President of the European Commission gave a speech, stating that in spring 2011, the EC will outline what the EU needs to do to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80-95% and will present a vision for a low-carbon, secure, and competitive transport system by 2050. (here)
  • EU Trade Policy. The Commissioner for Trade gave a speech on the new EU trade policy, stating that the EU should not only focus on exports, but on trade generally. The new policy aims include: completing various trade agreements, reforming GSP to developing countries, and focusing on bilateral negotiations. (here)
  • Ship recycling. The Commissioner for Environment gave a speech urging more efficient clean up of the ship recycling industry. He stated that there are delays in ratifying the Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Sound Recycling of Ships and that the convention is not enough to answer the challenge. (here)
