World Trade Organization Notices for Feb 10-11

  • Global trade expected to grow 13.5%. The Trade Policy Review Body issued an Overview of Developments in the International Trading Environment. Among other things, the report states that the current forecast is for world trade to grow by 13.5%, but the world economy is still in a recovery phase from the global financial crisis. (here)
  • LDC proposal on rules of origin. Zambia, on behalf of the Least-Developed Countries Group, issued a proposal on updating the rules of origin as they have not followed evolutions in world trade. (here)
  • Brazilian pharmaceutical support. The U.S. asked Brazil questions regarding its Support Program for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Productive Chain (PROFARMA - Innovation). (here)
  • India FTZs, etc. The U.S. asked India questions about its newly notified central-government program of preferential tax incentives related to Free Trade Zones, Special Economic Zones, and Export Processing Zones, especially if this was a full notification of all such subsidies as India has not notified such subsidies for several years.   • Hong Kong Trade Policy Review. As part of its Trade Policy Review process, Hong Kong answered questions on its trade policies, including on its control system on exports of textiles, policy of buying out livestock, producers, protection of geographical indications for wines and spirits, etc. (here)
