CITES Notification to Parties Jan 20- Feb 11

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora has issued the following partial list of notifications to the parties from January 19 to February 11, 2011:

  • Species inclusion to Appendix III. The governments of Brazil and Chile have requested that the CITES Secretariat include Cedrela odorata and Calyptocephalella gayi, respectively, to the list of species in CITES Appendix III, effective April 27, 2011.
  • Tiger & Asian big cat trade. In a resolution on Conservation of and trade in tigers and other Appendix-I Asian big cat species, the Conference of the Parties (CoP) instructs the Secretariat to report on conservation, and trade controls in place in Parties, including information on measures taken to comply with this Resolution by April 29, 2011.
  • Humphead wrasse. After the 15th Doha meeting, the CoP urged parties to adopt stricter measures to limit the conduction of international trade in humphead wrasse by air, and to improve inspections of boxes in mixed live reef fish by exporting, re-exporting, and importing countries, etc.
  • Malta reservations. Malta has entered the CITES list of reservations, meaning that it will not be bound by CITES provisions relating to trade in seven mammalia species listed in the CITES Appendices.
  • Captive breeding in Malaysia. The Secretariat has been requested to include in the "Register of Operations that Breed Appendix-I Animal Species in Captivity for Commercial Purposes", information concerning the captive breeding operation of Scleropages formosus in Malaysia, effective May 9, 2011.
