  • Proposed rules for border crossing. The European Commission has proposed to amend the Schengen Borders Code to. among other things, lighten the administrative burden on intra-EU cargo ships, offshore workers, etc. The EC states internal cargo operators would benefit from the absence of internal border controls.   • Dismantling trade barriers. The European Commission has published its first Trade and Investment Barriers report, singling out and proposing specific actions to remove important barriers in six strategic economic partners' markets to open new export and investment opportunities for EU companies.   • Single EU patent system. The EU Council has authorized the launch of an enhanced cooperation among EU member states to establish a single common system of patents, in order to reduce the cost of patent registrations and litigation, ease access to inventions, and improve innovation. (here)
