CPSC Announces Open Meetings with Industry Stakeholders

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has updated the list of meetings between CPSC and its stakeholders that are open to the public, unless otherwise stated:

  • Children's apparel from China. Dennis Blasius, Office of Compliance and Field Operations, and Patricia Bittner, Office of International Programs, to meet with government officials and manufacturers in China and Hong Kong to discuss children’s clothing requirements and general compliance work; 06/20/11-06/24/11.
  • Polyurethane foam. Arthur Lee, Directorate for Engineering Sciences, will be attending a meeting held by Underwriters Laboratories in Chicago for the Polyurethane Foam task group under STP 217; 06/21/11.
  • Compliance software. Neal Cohen the Small Business Ombudsman will meet with Gene Rider and Joe Mohorovic of Intertek North America and Quin Dodd, Esq. for a demonstration of Intertek’s compliance software and the potential utility of that software for use by small businesses and manufacturers; 06/22/11.
  • Upholstered furniture flammability. Dale Ray, Directorate for Economic Analysis, and other CPSC staff will meet with Dr. Arlene Blum, University of California, Berkeley / Green Science Policy Institute, and Vytenis Babrauskas, Fire Science & Technology, Inc., on upholstered furniture flammability; 06/22/11.
  • Ladders. Thomas Caton, Directorate for Engineering Sciences, and other CPSC staff to meet with representatives of the ANSI ASC A14 Ladder Incident Task Force regarding a planned Task Force Ladder Incident Statistics Study; 07/07/11.
  • Table saws. Chairman Tenenbaum and several CPSC staff met with representatives of the table saw industry for a demonstration of the guarding system currently being sold on table saws pursuant to the new UL voluntary standard and to discuss the table saw injury statistics recently released by CPSC as well as the table saw ANPR process and concerns; 06/14/11.
  • China product safety issues. Commissioner Northup to meet with representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong to discuss consumer and product safety issues related to items produced in Hong Kong and China; 06/17/11.
  • Athletic equipment. Elliot Kaye, Office of Chairman Inez Tenenbaum, and Richard McCallion, Office of Hazard Identification and Reduction, will be attending the Board Meeting of the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE); 06/17/11.
