FDA Corrects FY 2012 Fee for Food Reinspections, Recall Activities

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a correction to one of the fees in its recent notice that announced the fiscal year 2012 fee rates for certain domestic and foreign food facility reinspections; recall activities performed by FDA if a firm fails to comply with a mandatory recall order; and importer reinspections; all of which are fees mandated in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Correct Hourly Fee Is $325 if Foreign Travel Is Required

The correct FY 2012 fee when FDA foreign travel is required for facility reinspections, importer reinspections, and for FDA food recall activities is $325 an hour, not $335. FDA has stated that such fees will be charged for follow-up inspections of imported food that has to be reconditioned, destruction of food that has been refused admission, for follow-up food facility inspections when a previous inspection found a violation; etc.
