APHIS Updates Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) Manuals

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has updated the following PPQ electronic manuals as of August 29, 2011 (since August 26):

  • FAVIR database and Fruits and Vegetables Manual - Updated to show an additional declaration is no longer required on phytosanitary certificates for avocados from Chile. 08/26/11 (here)
  • Canadian Border Agricultural Clearance Manual - Revisions were made for the following areas: gypsy moth facilities under compliance agreements, instruction for regulating the entry of mushroom spawn or spawn bricks, and Cascadia Terminal and Pacific Terminal were added to the list of facilities approved to export pelletized screenings to the U.S. 08/26/11 (here)
  • Animal Product Manual- Revisions were made to Chapter 1-1: Introduction; Chapter 2-2: Cargo; Chapter 2-4: Special Procedures; and Chapter 3-17: Trophies. Appendix G: Certificates and Appendix K: Forms were also updated. The Index was updated. PPQ adds that all references to “PHS” have been changed to “CDC.” 08/29/11(here)
  • Treatment Manual - There were 7 changes: 1) in Chapter 2-3 ethylene absorbers was added to the list of items not to fumigate, 2) in Chapter 2-4 a link was added to Equipment Chapter 8 for colorimetric tubes, 3) in Chapter 3-6 revisions were made to the entire chapter for Niger Seed Treatment, 4) in Chapter 5-2, “catus fruit” was replaced with “edible cacti," 5) in Chapter 6-7, revisions to the entire chapter on Niger Seed Treatment, 6) in Chapter 8-1 the language in the Volatilizer section was revised, and 7) in Appendix H- Davis Calibration was removed as a source for smoke candles and CAS Datalogger was added as a source for general use temperature recorders. 08/29/11(here)
  • Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual - On Page B-1 CFIA Export Certificate and Approved Facilities, two new approved facilities were added. 08/29/11 (here)
