Census Announces AESDirect Platform Change

The Census Bureau has issued an AES broadcast regarding issues related to its recent AESDirect platform change. According to Census, changes to the AESDirect platform have generated error messages that filers may not be familiar with. (In September 2011, Census announced that it would be migrating the AESDirect database to a new platform and servers, which was expected to bring minor changes and improvements.) In order to facilitate the submission of Electronic Export Information to AES, Census has answered some of the most common questions it has received regarding the AESDirect platform change.

Password Expiration/Reset. Expiration timeframes for disabling inactive accounts is 30 days. E-mail warnings will be delivered to the user once a day after 25 days of inactivity. You will be reminded of the need to change your password.

Once an Account is disabled, the Account Administrator or User Manager will need to reactivate the User. If the Account Administrator is the only account registered for the company, a fax request must be sent to AESDirect Technical Support to re-enable the Account. A template fax is available for download at: https://www.aesdirect.gov/support/AESDirectTechnicalAssistanceFaxForm.pdf

Shipment Manager. This tool will help you manage all your filings. The Shipment Manager will allow you to choose how you would like to search for shipments made within the past five years, whether you prefer to search by date, shipment reference number or even license type. You can also sort your results to eliminate all that time you used to spend searching for shipments. If you need to retrieve, delete or even save selected shipments as templates, you can do this from a simple drop-down menu.

Outdated AESPcLink Versions. AESPcLink is in version 8.1. Some of the most common error messages generated are due to filers using an older version of AESPcLink. To update, click on “Update AESPcLink Software” from the “Tools” menu.
