APHIS Updates Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) Manuals

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has updated the following PPQ electronic manuals through November 9, 2011 (since the last update dated October 31):

  • FY12 Project Suggestions. APHIS memo to the trade on upcoming guidance to help stakeholders identify and develop project suggestions that address Section 10201 of the Farm Bill and the 2009 Implementation Plan regarding improving pest prevention, detection, and/or mitigation efforts. (11/04/11)
  • Treatment Manual - Revised to remove treatment schedules T303-a-1 through T303-a-3. Effective November 01, 2011, APHIS is rescinding Federal Order DA-2008-29. Federal Order DA-2011-55 issued September 29, 2011, reclassified the panicle rice mite (PRM) to a non-quarantine pest. The treatment information will be retained, and new information added, on this change to Page 1-1, in the Panicle Rice Mite Program Manual. (11/01/11) (here)
  • Fruits and Vegetables Manual and FAVIR database - Revised for (1) Colombia: yellow pitaya; clarified the import requirements regarding the lack of a preclearance program and approved treatment facility, (2) Israel: tomatoes and peppers; updated the lists of approved growers in Arava Valley, and (3) Mexico: removed a papaya orchard (Santa Clara in the municipality of Mazatan) from the list of approved papaya exports from Chiapas.   • Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual - Revised to change the following chapters: (1) Table 3-85 Goatskins, lambskins, and sheepskins change: treatments have been corrected in the second cell, third column (Then:); footnote indicator #1 has been added to “South Sudan” in the second and third cells, second column (And from:), (2) Table 3-91 Gums (largely from tropical and subtropical species of the Leguminosae) change: language has been added referring users to Table 3-21 for information regarding used burlap or jute bags, third row, (3) Table 3-92 Hay, fodder, silage, stover, and straw (various herbage of plants cut and cured for forage) change: reference table numbers have been corrected in the fourth and fifth cells, third column (Then:), (4) FORMER Table 3-152 Seeds (OTHER THAN nuts) that are processed or manufactured into articles change: table has been DELETED (and subsequent table numbering deleted), (5) Table 3-155 (formerly Table 3-156) Quarry products, except for gravel or sand (including cobblestones, flagstone, granite, ironstone, limestone, marble, quartzite, slate, and soapstone) change: table information now includes a link to areas in Canada and the U.S. infested with gypsy moth instead of listing the individual States and Provinces, and (6) FORMER Table 3-157 Rock—live change: table has been DELETED (11/09/11) (here)
