CBP Posts Presentation on the Simplified Entry Process, Etc.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted a presentation on Simplified Entry and the Industry Integration Centers. In the presentation slides, CBP notes that Simplified Entry data elements will satisfy both security and trade concerns by, among other things, promoting the concept of "the owner of the data knows the data best." The presentation also includes flow diagrams comparing the current entry process to the simplified entry process.

According to the diagram, under simplified entry, as the best information becomes available, pre-departure will include (i) the filer's submission of Entry/Manifest/Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS) Data, and CBP's (ii) issuance of a Data Acceptance Message, and (iii) use of Targeting Systems. After departure and in-flight, CBP will issue a Conditional Status Message and CBP and the filer will resolve any holds prior to arrival. Under this process, CBP and the trade will be able to identify and address potential risks earlier in the process.
