Co & 3 Individuals Charged for Illegal Exports of UMSL Items to S. Korea

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio has announced that EO System Company, Ltd., a corporation located in South Korea, and three South Korean citizens have been indicted for illegally knowingly and willfully exporting, defense articles on the U.S. Munitions List (USML) to South Korea.

Knowingly Exported USML Infra Red Focal Plane Array Detectors, Etc.

The three individuals are Seok Hwan Lee, Tae Young Kim, and Won Seung Lee. The indictment charges that on or about November 4, 2005, the defendants knowingly exported, caused to be exported, and aided and abetted the export from the U.S. to South Korea of five telescopes1, also described as Infra Red Focal Plane Array detectors and Infra Red camera engines, which were designated as defense articles on the USML. The indictment charges that the defendants did so without first obtaining an export license or written authorization for such export from the State Department.

Man Sentenced to 14 Months in Prison in Related Case

In a related case, Kue Sang Chun pleaded guilty in January 2011 to exporting defense articles on the USML to South Korea without first obtaining an export license or written authorization from the State Department and other charges. He was sentenced in November 2011 to 14 months in prison. (See ITT's Online Archives 11012519 for summary.)
