APHIS Updates Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) Manuals

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has updated the following PPQ electronic manuals through January 26, 2012 (since the last update dated January 18, 2012):

  • Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual. The following changes have been made to the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual: 1) Table 3-86 Goatskins, lambskins, and sheepskins change: changed treatment instructions in the second cell in the third column (Then:) 2) Table 3-92 Gums (largely from tropical and subtropical species of the Leguminosae) change: changed treatment instructions in the second and fourth cells in the third column (Then:) 3) Table 3-154 Seeds (OTHER THAN nuts) that are processed (seeds with hulls removed), or manufactured into articles change: Table 3-154 has been combined with FORMER Table 3-155; the commodities chickpea, safflower seed, and soybean have been added to the first column (If the seed or nut is:); footnote #1 has been added. 4) FORMER Table 3-155 Seeds (OTHER THAN nuts) that are processed (seeds with hulls removed), or manufactured into articles change: table has been deleted* 5) CURRENT Table 3-181 Wood/wood products navigation table change: table title has been changed; instructions have been added in the 12th and 13th cells in the fourth column (And made from: wooden logs, limbs, branches, trunks, or twigs that are:) and the fifth column (Then:) 6) CURRENT Table 3-203 Canadian-origin timber products change: “compost” has been added to the last cell in the first column (If:) 7) CURRENT Tables 3-216, Table 3-217, Table 3-218, Table 3-219, Table 3-220 (all tables concerning pine wood) change: “compost” has been added to all the table titles.   • Animal Product Manual. The following changes have been made to the Animal Product Manual: 1) Table 3-2-18 Rendered or Processed Protein Products from All Equine, Poultry, Ruminant, or Swine for Fertilizer from a Country Free from BSE change: table has been replaced. 2) Page 3-2-15 (under heading) Feed Rendered Products and Processed Proteins change: “Warning” table has been changed to an “Important” table. 3) Page 3-2-16 (under heading) Rendered or Processed Protein Products from All Species of Animals from a Country Affected with BSE or Designated at Minimal Risk for BSE change: “Warning” table has been changed to an “Important” table and the language has been changed. 4) Page C-1-4 Foreign Countries and Disease Status change: “HPAI” has been added to the Bhutan entry. 5) Page H-1-2 PPQ-VRS-Headquarters Personnel change: phone number for PPQ-VRS Headquarters has been changed. 6) Page Glossary-1-36 (under listing) rendered product change: “Warning” table has been changed to an “Important” table and the language has been changed.   • Plants for Planting Manual. The Interim edition of the Plants for Planting Manual has been updated: 1) Page 3-102, Coix spp.: Moved requirement and added “…if from a non-prohibited country and…” 2) Page 3-206: Added Hygroyza spp. 3) Page 3-235, Litchi chinensis: corrected family to Sapindaceae. 4) Pages 7-1 through 7-4: Revised information for precleared bulbs and dormant perennials and bulbs and dormant perennials eligible for preclearance.   • Canadian Border Agricultural Clearance Manual. The online version of the Canadian Border Agricultural Clearance Manual has been revised to update the following: 1) Table 4-4 Soil, Compost, and Peat (including peat moss and sphagnum moss) from Canada. 2) Phone and fax numbers for CBP offices at Detroit, MI. 3) Contact information for Brett Young (Winnipeg) Ltd., in the list of laboratories authorized to issue Seed Analysis Certificates.
