FDA to Recruit Chief Science Director for FSMA Implementation

The FDA's Deputy Commissioner for Foods Michael Taylor announced on February 2, 2012 that the agency is recruiting a Chief Science Officer and Research Director to help ensure that FDA has the infrastructure and resources (including expertise and funding) needed to implement the Food Safety Modernization Act's mandate to prevent problems and address risks in the supply chain.

Taylor states the new officer will provide strategic direction and work with FDA scientists and policy experts, as well as collaborate with other research entities in the public and private sector, to ensure that science supports the new FSMA regulatory framework and the right decisions are made to protect the public health.
