import surveillance, which has been expanded; enforcement of Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) rules through field enforcement programs at establishment, retail stores, and ports; upcoming rulemakings; and efforts to upgrade and improve information technology systems. The report also states that CPSC settled with 10 companies for a total of $3.6 million in penalties in 2011, plans to continue international engagement, and is engaged in a nanotechnology initiative.
