USCIB Launches eCO Service on Origin of Goods
The U.S. Council for International Business launched a new electronic Certificates of Origin (eCOs) service, it said. The certificates are international trade documents attesting to the origin of specified goods. Customs authorities often require them in order to obtain preferential duty rates or to fulfill obligations for letters of credit from a financial institution. USCIB said its eCOs save time and money by bypassing the delay and expense of employing messengers to obtain certification and offering a paperless, time-saving way to document a product’s origin.

Cynthia Duncan, USCIB senior vice president for Carnet and trade services, said "eCOs complement and expand the trade services we already offer, bringing our clients yet another time-saving and cost-effective solution for their exporting needs.” USCIB has licensed eCertify, an internationally recognized software vendor and used by many of our fellow Carnet Guaranteeing associations worldwide, as the software provider to process our eCOs. As a result of the launch, USCIB’s ATA Carnet Department has been renamed the Carnet and Trade Services Department.
